In addition to being a community space for current staff it's nice for retired members to drop by and keep up to date with former colleagues

The Common Room is the beating heart of the campus for many. It cannot be replaced by a corporate model. The new University Club will not be a place where UCD staff can go on breaks.

The Common Room is a democratic space. I cannot think of one good reason why it should be closed.

It would be a real shame for this facility to go. Many people would lose out on what has been an oasis of calm and peace for many years.

UCD management's policy of centralising all organisation and milking everything for profit and investment destroys the community.

As a former student of UCD and as someone with close colleagues working in UCD, I would like to support UCD staff in their request to keep the Common Room open. This is not only important in terms of those who use it on an every day basis, but also in terms of the staff who work there. Having been a guest there on a number of occasions, it is also important to note that it is a very warm and inviting space that feels at the heart of the campus.

You're staff deserve a space too - in fact I feel you should be diverting funds to improve this room for them and make it a more comfortable and inviting place for them.

What a treat it was to sit here with others, have a quiet drink and chat. Anyone who closes this does not have the well-being of his staff in mind.

Such facilities are vital for both social, cultural and innovative academic development in UCD and instead of closing it should be replicated in all higher level institutions

Keeping the UCD Common Room will keep a piece of UCD alive. I've had many happy and engaging times in the Common Room with former colleagues. It's loss will only be to the detriment of UCD.

Great place to bring in your own lunch. Meet colleagues for a friendly chat and some good advice. Too much leveraging of private assets in UCD that might generate revenue or might create debt! Important that all activities are directly centred on staff and students. Charging students and staff, in excess, to eat, park and for pool/fittness is not good practice.

The Common Room is an important facility for academic and senior administrative staff to meet up regularly. It should not be abolished. Social interaction helps build collegiality which should not be ignored by the President and the Senior administration.

As UCD alumnus I support the retention of this valuable social space. Don’t repeat QUB’s mistake.

UCD common room is an egalitarian place that enabled me as a PhD student and postdoc to learn from and engage with academics from a wide range of disciplines. Don't underestimate the value of these informal spaces for early career researchers.

It would be a shame to lose this room.
