The Common Room has always been a warm relaxing place, fundamental to staff interaction and the collegial side of UCD - please keep it!

The Common Room is a vital and much used and needed facility for staff and postgraduate students. I have attended several book launches there.

Have been to many important events in the UCD common room. We don't have one at UL and we really feel the lack of this important shared, social space. Please keep it open

The Common Room is the center of collegial exchange and our staff and faculty community. The new club will not replace it and I will not be joining.

The role of such dedicated social space in forging good working relations and valuable networks between UCD staff should be valued and nurtured by senior management.

This place is at the heart of the Arts Block, and the fact that it's dated adds to the charm.

An absolutely necessary sanctuary for staff and staff visitors. The atmosphere is my most pleasant memories of UCD and it should be saved.

We need a space of our own on this side of campus.

The common room was an excellent place for staff to bring visitors and guests for a brew (tea, coffee and others) and a bite. Countless academic and social discussions have roots in that room.

A quiet space to just take some time out amidst the craziness of term time

The common Room is a great resource for entertaining visitors in a relaxed and informal setting. Closing it early, without a remotely satisfactory explanation, seems unjustified, and is a rebuff for the dedicated staff who work there and those who avail of its services.

I will not join the new UCD club, which looks not to cater for or prioritize staff needs and interests in the same way as the Common Room does.

The Common Room is a public right of way at this point and a heavily used relaxed staff amenity for de-stressing. Why the authoritarian desire to get rid of something staff value highly?

The Common Room is a place where everyone who works in UCD can meet on an equal footing. Why can't we have both facilities as they seem to serve very different functions/goals ?

I hope the common room continues. I have enjoyed many lunches and evenings there with colleagues.

The UCD Common Room is a space for exchange and information flow across colleagues from all over this large institution facilitating full engagement from administration, academic and postgraduate staff of this fine educational institution. Nearly 44 years of history!

It would be a disgrace for the president’s attempts a personal legacy to go ahead at the expense of the academic community in UCD.

Many fond memories. An asset worth saving
