I lived in Troy from 2012-2017. Why would such an important department be dismantled from the school system?

My son has struggled on and off since 3rd grade with reading. I don't know where he would have been without the help of the reading teachers at the elementary and middle school levels. So many kids who need this assistance will fall behind and in the cracks. The teachers can only do so much in a 40 minute class and definitely can not help with those who need more "1:1"

I'm signing because the children of Troy deserve a good education and the teachers deserve to continue to be employed during a pandemic

Thanks to this program, my son is a strong avid reader. He loves books. I can say he wouldn't be as much so without the help and encouragement from the teachers in this program. It would be such a shame to lose a program that I feel is changing how children view reading.

A federal court recently ruled that reading programs cannot be eliminated because children have a right to education. What Troy is about to do is likely illegal.

As a troy student graduating in 2008 I don’t know where I’d be with out the extra help I’ve gotten from got my reading teachers. I always struggled in that subject. Today I had a very successful career and honestly I don’t think I’d have the confidence I do today with out the help of the Troy reading teachers.

Reading is the core of education. Especially during a time like this, we need to prepare for what next school year could bring and be prepared to make up for lost time. The reading teachers in the school are the most important asset to the district and for those students who really struggle.

Why don't you start at the top and cut the pay of the administration, and cut school programs, sports music and arts, not reading, the kids will never excel.

Reading is fundamental to every class a child takes. If they can not read they will continually fail. Please find other ways to save money. All children deserve the best chance possible to succeed.

Schools need reading teachers! This is a short-sighted move. I'm not a Troy resident, but a long-time educator who understands the ramifications.

Troy schools have worked their way to be so much better for the children in the community! Reading is one MOST important subjects in a children education eliminating such a thing would be devastating to me and many more.
