Having spent my career in Higher Education, I can’t fathom abandoning reading assistance in lower grades. Troy should not undermine education’s most essential mission, reading. A former Troy resident

My daughter needs these tools and the teachers that provide those tools and methods. Cutting assistance like that to our children is taking from THEIR education. Nobody interrupted your education why ruin our children's.

Hey Carmello, looking forward to you picking up the slack and personally teaching every Troy student to read. Or resigning immediately, your choice!

After missing a significant portion of the school year, cutting teachers would be a huge blow to students and the community at large. I'd rather pay higher taxes than live in an illiterate society.

Reading is the most important aspect of getting through life. Keep the reading program. Keep kids in school. If they can't read they get frustrated and drop out!

We need our teachers! If a child cannot read or cannot comprehend reading, learning in school will be a constant struggle.

Reading is a fundamental part of education. Do not take away the reading teachers, so many could be left behind as they do not all read at the same levels. It would be very reckless for the district to take away those positions.

I have been employed as a classroom teacher with the district for 34 years. This proposal will exacerbate the gap between students who are successful and those who are not. Research has already indicated that the Units of Study in Reading do not reduce the reading difficulties for our underprivileged group.
