The historic Townsend estate on the East Shore is for sale for $2.25 million. Please join in asking the City to purchase the property so the residents of New Haven can determine the future use of the property. If the City doesn't act, we run the risk of a mega landlord purchasing it, or a non-profit buying it and removing it from the tax rolls.
In Westville the City made the mistake of not buying the Delaney's lot in 2014 or the Hallock's Furniture Building in 2010, and as a consequence the Delaney's lot has been empty for 7 years and the Church of Scientlology has left the Hallock's Building vacant and off the tax rolls for 12 years as it land banks the property. Don't allow the City to sit back and let the same thing happen to this property.

As a former employee of the Nantucket Historical Association I understand the importance of preserving such significant landmarks.
Museum during the day like NewPort Mansions with an option to visit Ft. Nathan Hale for a discount for visiting both. Then by night Weddings.
Please listen and hearken ! ACT toward saving this property and building for Public Use and Heritage offices. Too many fine locations have gone to Mandy and Pike properties, soon blighted. SAVE THE CHARACTER of historic New Haven!
Save the Townsend Estate and preserve it as is for public use as a State/City museum and park available for rentals for weddings and other events much like Gillette Castle and Lighthouse Park and Carousel.
This is terrible! To destroy something so beautiful is a sin. The words Mandy and Pike make me nauseous. The surrounding woods are filled with all sorts of wildlife: fox, turkey, rabbits, coyotes, the occasional deer, even less occasional, a bear. Owls, robins, cardinals. The idea makes me want to cry.
Make this a nice space for CT residents and tourism extra $$ for state and city

At the very lease the city should as as a broker arranging the sale to a buyer sensitive to history. The state stepped up in a similar way when it purchased the Gillette estate/ Gillette castle.
