I am fully in favour of saving this pub and for increasing public support for all pubs that are under threat of closure. In this specific instance a councillor who claims to want to save The Tower Arms for her local community and who has started an alternative petition against its closure is currently recommending the closure of The Woolpack pub near Ingatestone, Brentwood. I am intrigued to understand why someone might be accused if a hate campaign in the local press re The Tower Arms , yet claim to want to retain it for the local community and at the same time be wholeheartedly recommending the change if use of The Woolpack. Why I ask?

This action seems sudden and high-handed. Where is the evidence to justify it? What official bodies have been involved? What reasonable steps have been taken to come to mutually agreeable solution? Brentwood Council has form re accusing people of anti-social behaviour. They accused Brentwood Council tenants of this in order to FORCE fixed term tenancies through, and it was NOT true at all. Very suspicious.

I don't go to the Tower Arms very often but I like to know it is there. If Gazette reports that it is being closed because of a malicious campaign by somebody with spurious authority are correct, this is intolerable.

the owner(s) mainly one, are business people and have no regard for the fact that this pub is over 400 years old and is situated in a VILLAGE!! Not on Brentwood high street. No regard for noise... not that I live near or am affected but couldnt believe the noise they created (outside singers on sundays) etc when they have neighbours next door. What do they expect??!!!!! And when I say loud.... I mean it was LOUD. Stupidity if you ask me.
Im a local and have been coming to this pub for years (not an old fuddy duddy as they would have you think) and have seen the locals one by one leave, as the owners are more interested in selling rediculously expensive drinks to TOWIE fans from up north.
Rude owners that make you feel unwelcome.
GIVE US OUR PUB BACK and a welcoming manager!
The pub has always been here.... managers come and go. U are not the first or last. Bye Bye!

To be honest I'm disgusted by whoever set up this petition. Its ambition seems rather than to save a period country pub closing, it wants to set the ACTUAL owners out as villains without any actual facts being put onto the page. Throwing a pregnant woman out on the streets? They couldn't be SO ignorant as to not know when the lease was up, that doesn't exactly show great business sense, does it? Whether or not the pub is closing to be turned into a house once more (which believe me the surrounding residents would be more than happy about) has absolutely nothing to do with greed on the owners part! I have worked in that pub under the owners and also know MANY people who have worked there under the ex lease holders/managers. The ex managers are manipulative, unethical deplorable, etc. etc. (sorry I don't have a thesaurus at hand, or I would add more). At one point they were purposely hiring foreign workers, knowing that at the time they needed work permits, had them working 16 hour or more shifts, and then if these people even had a 15 minute break in all that time, would make sure it was deducted from their wages. One was person was underpaid by 8 hours, then told he'd worked too many hours (though how many he should work was never specified), but what could he do? He knew the position he was in, he couldn't go to anyone about it. This is manipulation pure and simple, cheap workers who can't say a thing if they aren't treated right. Even after leaving the tower arms far behind in thought I've meet former employees who have nothing good to say about the ex managers. I'm sure SOME could say I'm biased but you only need to look at the wildly varying comments on trip advisers, though the last two months seem to show the management in their true light. Threatening, intimidating and abusive, they wouldn't know what hospitality was if it smack them in the face. Im pretty sure abusing every people who has ever make a bad comment on trip advisor is not the best way to go. Wh
