"It depends on the state itself to retain or abolish the principle of representation, because it depends on itself whether it will continue a member of the Union. To deny this right would be inconsistent with the principle on which all our political systems are founded, which is, that the people have in all cases, a right to determine how they will be governed. This right must be considered as an ingredient in the original composition of the general government, which, though not expressed, was mutually understood, and the doctrine heretofore presented to the reader in regard to the indefeasible nature of personal allegiance, is so far qualified in respect to allegiance to the United States. It was observed, that it was competent for a state to make a compact with its citizens, that the reciprocal obligations of protection and allegiance might cease on certain events; and it was further observed, that allegiance would necessarily cease on the dissolution of the society to which it was due. The states, then, may wholly withdraw from the Union, but while they continue, they must retain the character of representative republics." -- "A View of the Constitution of the United States of America" by Judge William Rawle (a Northerner and an abolitionist), a textbook at the United States Military Academy at West Point, Chapter 32
"Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most valuable, -- most sacred right -- a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government, may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people that can, may revolutionize, and make their own, of so much of the territory as they inhabit. More than this, a majority of any portion of such people may revolutionize, putting down a minority, intermingled with, or near about them,

How childish and silly to be so enslaved to the hysteria of a moment.; If you find Confederate history incorrect why not examine American history in toto?

I grew up in the city of Memphis and I remember all of these parks and had the pleasure of visiting each at one time or the other. All I came away with is a greater desire to learn more about the rich history of this region and to learn more about the conflict that divided this great country. I guess the city leaders believe that is a terrible thing to instill in a child.
