Please try to find other ways to make necessary repairs, and retain the Haupt Garden with Renwick gates and entrance spaces to NMAA, the Sackler Gallery, and the Quad. While perhaps not historically old by Smithsonian standards, they never-the-less are and should remain priceless gifts of beauty and peace available for everyone to enjoy.

Please do not destroy this lovely entrance to the various components of the Smithsonian. It is a wonderful place to sit and rest while visiting the Mall and should not be demolished.

As a former Smithsonian employee and now a frequent visitor, the Enid Haupt Garden is one of my favorite parts of the Smithsonian. I always take out-of-town visitors, and they always love it. I rest there in the middle of hectic work days. As a gardener, I am inspired by it. And there are always lots of other visitors enjoying it when I'm there. It is unique. Plazas are not.

The Haupt Garden is a spectacular refuge that should be preserved. Spending hundreds of millions to install this neo-futuristic eyesore where the botanical treasure now exists is a step in the wrong direction.
