This garden is a gem, & adds a bit of welcome intimacy to the grand scale of the Mall. Many who stumble on to it feel they have found a "secret" place, and are all the more fond of the Smithsonian because of this connection.

The Enid Hauptmann is a national treasure and a destination point in itself. To destroy this Eden is an outrage on our city and a crime against the gentle serenity of flowers, fountains and birds.

I love the Haupt Gardens; it is one of the most beautiful spots in our great city. I've directed many a tourist friend to this off the beaten track hideaway. I was stunned when I read it is going to be completely redone. What are you thinking? Have you been there when the magnolias bloom? It's gorgeous! Please do not destroy this treasure, doing so is a huge mistake!

I visit the garden a few times each week. What an imbecilic idea it is to destroy it! Tourists are constantly taking photos there, including photos of the Renwick gates. Would they do that with the new modern design? It would become nothing more than a passageway. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Please leave this be. It is a place of solace and reflection. It's peaceful and a very welcome break in between seeing exhibits. It has old world charm.

The Haupt is an urban oasis and great complement to the Victorian era Castle. Nothing wrong with mixing old and new but not at the expense of the popular and lovely. No better testament to how modern doesn't work than the urban scar across the street and in neighboring blocks...truly a pedestrian's no man's land.

The Enid Hauptmann Garden represents the best of landscape architecture in the city. It is a real jewel the and something living in the otherwise mostly concrete, bare, bleak, bunker architecture on that part of Independence Avenue. It was made for humans.
