Whoever made the choice to hire that the firm that made the horrendously ugly and inappropriate proposal should be fired! It was obvious before hiring that the company that they hired was inappropriate for this historic site!

This garden is one of my favorite places in the area to escape for a quiet moment of meditation. With the mall on the other side of the castle I don't see the need for another community lawn.

I am opposed to the Smithsonian's plan to demolish the Enid A. Haupt Garden and the amazing Mary Livingston Ripley Garden. These are horticultural treasures and while I enjoy IKEA as much as the next person, that barren aesthetic has no place besides hitoric buildings.

It would be simply criminal to destroy this wonderful haven of a garden and the beautiful Renwick Gates. Please re-consider this design and save our garden and the lovely open feeling of this area.

Please do not sacrifice this treasured public space that is chock full of nooks and cubbies that, for the careful explorer, offer an historical tidbit or opportunity for quiet contemplation in what can otherwise be an overwhelming public arena.
