I spent so many peaceful his there when I worked at the Smithsonian many years ago. Once something special like that is taken away, there's no bringing it back.

This city is supposed to be a green city. Please do not destroy the lovely Hauptmann Garden. There is already too much development and cement and stone near the Smithsonian buildings!

I am all for architectural creativity and whimsy, after all, these new designs will become the historic landmarks of the future, but we cannot sacrifice our existing landmarks in the process. Furthermore, the SI is America's attic and it's gardens should be a showcase of the diversity of the land; replacing them with turf, not only sends the wrong message in a time when we should be pushing for ecological responsibility, it is tantamount to sacrilege.

The overall project sounds like a vanity project for someone. Use money wisely to upkeep and upgrade museums/gardens as necessary. the enid Haupt garden is a wonderful place where I have spent ;many lunch hours and taken visiting guests.
