The idea of destroying the historic Enid Haupt garden for the expansive, modern design that shows no respect for the history or architecture of the surrounding buildings is more than disappointing, it is shocking. The garden is a peaceful oasis amidst the buildings that is an integral part of the Smithsonian Mall experience for visitors.

I love that garden. Whenever I am downtown I go there, because it is beautiful and well kept and is an oasis within the Smithsonian. I have been doing this for 27 years. Please do not destroy this haven.

Absolutely the wrong direction; Washington DC needs MORE greenspace, not less. The Enid Haupt garden is an oasis that provides both beauty and a connection to nature.

This beautiful and stately garden is a fitting outdoor setting for the beautifully historic Smithsonian Castle, and removing it would be a loss to the Smithsonian, the city, and the nation.

Why don't you folks talk to the folks over at the National Trust for Historic Preservation and figure out that saving this is far, far better than destroying it . . . and I'll bet you can put together an Enid Haupt Garden Club to provide volunteer gardeners to keep the premises tidy, since I'll bet the cost of gardeners is a lot of why you are proposing a LAWN which requires a few riding mowers and LOTS of CHEMICALS. Puh-lease! The old-fashioned beauty is more than worth saving -- it's worth celebrating!
