In what way is replacing a green space with a concrete space good? BIG mistake. Bjarke's home city of Copenhagen strives to top every "green" list imaginable and he goes around destroying other cities' green spaces?

The Haupt Gardens are an integral part of "the Washington experience," and are part of my regular visits to the Smithsonian museums. They provide much needed beauty, a place of respite, and an area in which all can regain a sense of peace and connection to all who see them. Once lost, this treasure will be gone forever, and that will be a loss for future generations. Please save the Haupt Gardens!

One of the lovely restful spots in the city, beautifully designed. My mother used to love to go there in early spring to see what trees and plants were starting to flower.

This is an oasis in the middle of a tourism jungle. This area should be steeped in history- not modernism. A historic castle with a modern, minimalist (read: soccer field) behind it... Whose idea of "design" is that!?! Also- could we not find a US architect to undertake this project?

I was shocked saddened to see such disregard for one of our National Treasures. Anyone involved with this should be ashamed of themselves.

Is there a real need for this modern-minimalist underground area, can office space be generated without this huge remodeling effort? The Castle is of a certain period in time, and the garden matches it - why juxtapose something completely out of tone and style, in a jarring post-modern-pastiche fashion? The African Museum's outdoor fountain is a masterpiece of art, it draws in people as a village water hole would, it really brings a feel for the culture to life - as one citizen, I ask that you reconsider this move, and not destroy the Haupt Garden. Rethink it, see if you can get what you need without such a grandiose and complete reconstruction of the space - thank you very much.
