I love the Haupt garden! It's a beautiful and unique spot. The planned renovations would ruin it.

It would be a tragedy to change the Gardens and would effect donations for further improvements , Your fund rasings would really take a hit!!

destroying this garden would also destroy the credibility of the Smithsonian with potential future donors. Ms. Haupt cared deeply about this project and made an extremely significant donation to pay for it - which she almost certainly would not have done if she had known it would be casually discarded. Why would anyone want to give the Smithsonian money, knowing that they behave with such complete disrespect? And it's distressing to think that the folks making these decisions are such philistines that they cannot appreciate the value of the garden.
I'm a member but I've agonized over whether to renew, knowing that my contributions might be used to facilitate the destruction of this beloved public space

This is a small gem, a welcome oasis at any time when visiting the mall. And It is in perfect harmony with the surrounding buildings,
It is also a perfect way to discourage future endowments.
Please keep this lovely garden to be enjoyed by future generations of visitors.

I just cancelled my subscription to Smithsonian Friends...suggest others do the same...this is a totally unnecessary project. The Smithsonian leaders should use their funds more wisely.

To remove the garden would be a crime. The garden is the entrance statement, green space and a wonderful visionary and practical delight for the body and soul. If you destroy it would you give the amount Mrs. Haupt gave to establish the garden to her trust fund? think beyond your insipid government (I'm well aware that Smithsonian is not government but the mentality is the same )notions. It's just another way to spend money you're constantly conscripting. Think widely !

Please save the garden. It is a respite of calm and beauty between the concrete jungle to the south and the grassy sprawl to the north. It is a wonderful spot to let children run and explore, or to have lunch away from the crowds.

Haupt Garden is a gem. The master plan replaces it with an all grass field with sidewalk (in the Environmental pdf on the master plan website, it says "all vegetation restored"). A farce. Magnolias gone, the lovely other plants (paperbush e.g.) gone, the Moongate Garden gone. To quote unquote improve visibility of the the two museums. To do this you would have to remove the Castle (I don't advocate it). I can think of many words to call this but I will stop now. DONT DO IT.
