As a long time D.C. Resident, I see the constant demolishing of historic or historically significant buildings send spaces. Once it's gone, there is no way back.
D.C. Doesn't need yet another innovative space, but preservation of historic spaces so future generations have some context in which to place innovation

I am writing to oppose the new plan that involves destroying the enid haupt garden at the smithsonian on the mall. The garden is a true gem in our capital and should be preserved in its historic state.

These gardens provide natural beauty and an oasis for peace in an ever increasing urban jungle of dense concrete. Plans to connect the Mall to SW do not require demolition of the gardens. In fact, they should expand the gardens to Banneker Park.

It's a beautiful garden, tranquil almost like an oasis in the middle of the city that when I discovered, I couldn't believe. It will be sad to see it gone. Me and my kids do enjoy visiting there pretty often.
