Given the overall push to continue to develop additional structures on our National Mall, it is increasingly important to preserve and keep the truly beautiful elements of cultural and historic significance intact for the future. Considering that more buildings are proposed in the face of budget challenges that prohibit or at least threaten additional beautification projects, it is all the more urgent that we keep the Enid Haupt Garden. There is already a huge deficit of physical beauty and charm on our beloved National Mall -- a sad neglect that residents and visitors alike bemoan. Don't through the baby out with the bath water! Please save the Haupt Garden! The Smithsonian isn't just about the buildings and their contents: the gardens, green space around the buildings and the whole feel of the Mall are important. Don't sacrifice the outdoor experience. It's too valuable.

I am the landscape curator at Innisfree Garden, in Millbrook, NY, a now public landscape designed by Lester Collins and named by author and historian Rory Stuart as one of the world's ten best gardens. The Haupt Garden is fully consistent with Collins' overall body of work, it is of national significance, and it must be preserved.

Such uniformed emotional comments. It is such a shame that people cannot see what an aesthetic and functional improvement Mr Bjark Ingles Master Plan would create for the institution. Typical for this inartisitic city. We should be honored to have Mr Ingles, who is one of the worlds most brilliant artists, designing this space, which while very pretty is of very mediocre design, chopped up into useless areas with a very a unsustainable Victorian ornamental garden at its center. Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to even see the entrances to the National Museum of African American Art or the Sackler? They are obscured in this very compromised plan by Jean Paul Carlihan (Now Shepley Bulfinch) with overriding control made by wealthy women amateurs Edith Haupt and Lady Bird Johnson. The opposition to this is being led by a amateurs historian James Goode who has had too much aclaim for his second rate books. Please let the professionals do this right. This master plan will be beautiful

As a volunteer in the garden for two years, I heard so many people say what a beautiful, peaceful place it is. The public appreciates the Haupt Garden. Please don't destroy it and replace it with a design that has nothing to do with the history of the Smithsonian Castle and looks so strange (outlandish). Keep the beloved parterre, Moorgate Garden and Fountain Garden.

There are fewer and fewer healthy green spaces in DC. Stand in the garden today and count the cranes you see on the cityscape as open, pedestrian-friendly spaces of beauty disappear. And that's not even addressing the historical significance of this garden.
