The Smell is a model of DIY done right, largely due to the dedication of Jim Smith. The Smell was there on the ground level working with the community, before the developers, and it is an authentic and important cultural center worth preserving.

This venue has helped me find a safe haven from the obstacles and struggles in my life. It has helped me find meaning and purpose. It has made me feel welcome and given me the sense that I belong somewhere. After being adopted I had a hard time finding somewhere to fit in. The Smell provided me with support and has given me hope for the future. Destroying this building would destroy my one place of belonging, the community's safe haven for adults and youths.

There is no place like this here in Los Angeles. It's unique when all ages can experience music together in a safe environment. This place has history. It should be a landmark rather than a demo site.

The smell's been a place I've gone to and honestly LA needs this place, the ethos around it and what it provides to everyone is important. The community and space go hand in hand.

This is a Los Angeles institution! Demolishing it for a parking lot is going to do so much more harm than good.
