The Smell is the standard for what a DIY, all-ages space should be. Instead of being torn down by the city or private interests, it should be supported and even subsidized by the city of Los Angeles. It is an important part of LA's music and youth community and it's continued presence is not only necessary to promote music and art, but keep the peace in the streets!

The Smell is a cultural landmark within the Los Angeles area independent / DIY music scene. This all-ages, no alcohol space is highly accessible to young people. It's a place where musicians can play for positive, enthusiastic audiences. Young people, who are excluded from age-restricted bar and club shows, have a safe space to see live music. The Smell is real. The Smell is as punk rock as CBGB's.
I have seen so many great bands there, like The Moldy Peaches and Peter Pants! The Smell should be preserved as a historical landmark, not demolished!

The smell is a vital part of the community. I've seen emerging artist there, and been able to participate myself and adding to their community.

The Smell has touched my life in a very meaningful way, not just as a place I went for music, and friends, and community. It is also a place that hosts countless benefit shows. It is one of the most important places in Los Angeles and has my heart forever.

Movements are bigger than buildings. But i can, without question, say i would not be the person i am today w/o the Smell, Jim, and all of the amazing people I met there. It undoubtedly help shape and probably saved my life. When the kids had no place to go, we knew we were always safe in this dark ally in downtown LA.

Over time The Smell has become a second home for the young adults of Los Angeles and musicians. Not only is the environment high in art, it represents our culture. Destroying this, destroys a part of history.

The Smell is so vital to Los Angeles. It's an incubator for the creative community that makes LA a world-class city, and also a safe place for young people to explore the arts and define themselves.
If the city and the parking corporation can't save this location, the very least it can do is aid them in finding a suitable and permanent replacement.
