While I didn’t get to visit The Smell when I was younger, I love it today and credit having access to spaces like it in my youth for exposing me to all kinds of ideas that helped raise my consciousness and shape my values. LA desperately needs to protect spaces like the Smell. #savethesmell #screwcapitalism

The smell helps so many bands get their names out there and it's one of the few hangout places for teenagers to have genuine fun and meet so many people.

The Smell is an LA institution. It's one of the most important parts of LA culture for young people. The city should support this safe, all ages drug free night life space and use it as an example of what DTLA should be.

If it weren't for this place, I wouldn't have seen nearly as much music in my early 20s -- shows here are affordable and accessible to the under-21 crowd, and give a lot of bands their start. We're running out of venues like this.

The Smell meant so much to my teenage years. I used to take the bus to their punk shows when all they used to have was a plywood stage and some hanging industrial lights.
Thanks for making life better for those seeking something different.
