The smell brings great people together in one space where we can all have fun and share our passion for good reason! My first show was way back in 2009, it's always a great time at the smell.

The Smell rules, it's where all the developing artists (regardless of age and gender) convene and that right shouldn't be taken away.

...does anyone have any actual plans to help keep the /spirit/ of the venue alive? if we can find a better/more affordable (while still accessible) location then the demo shouldn't be an issue...

The influx of artists tends to be the first step in the change from a rundown neighborhood to a thriving and exciting revitalization. The Smell certainly portended that change in Downtown. I remember going for the first time in 2004 and being baffled by how crazy Downtown LA looked at night: small homeless encampments, one or two taco trucks and a whole lot of empty streets. It felt post-apocalyptic, and the Smell made that somewhat terrifying area into a welcoming communal hangout for a group of weirdo kids who wanted to be able to play weirdo music without paying the Whisky ridiculous amounts of money or scraping together a warehouse show. It's remained a vibrant hub for a strong arts community, and losing something as valuable and positive as that would only be to the city's detriment. Plus, where's the fun in going to the Edison if you don't get to see all the gutter punks smoking cigarettes just down the alley?

Life changing place. Losing The Smell would be akin to LA losing what makes it interesting in the first place.

If The Smell is closed the city of Los Angeles will lose an important cultural and empowering home for art, music and performance. A place of incredible community and support for young and old. A safe place for everyone. Please SAVE THE SMELL.

Downtown is loosing all the things that make it cool and uniquely LA. Shut down greedy developers and save the smell!

I'm 18 and have lived in New York. I go to shows and play music at DIY venues in New York City and have always been interested in one day making it out to the Smell. We had a really important and historical venue get shut down 2 years ago, it would be a shame to see the same thing happen on the west coast.
