My great great uncles and grandfather fought and died to keep the invaders at bay, and then suffered through twelve years of Reconstruction to raise enough money to have that statue erected in the memory of their fallen comrades.

I think this is crazy. What has happened. Tearing down the statue does not change the history. Let us learn from it not destroy it. Why can we not just love each other and be over this craziness!!

Leave our history alone, keep the statue. Good or bad it happened, learn from it. Do not hide your head in the sand by removing it and pretending it didn't happen. We use our past to determine how far we have come, remove it and people will try and convince you that we have not progressed since then, we are bad and they will make it better. They wont.

Leave history alone . If you dont want to see it or learn from it that is your loss . Do not take it away from everyone because you dont like it . Save our history .

15SEP2020: Preserve and protect the "Sentinel" monument where it was originally erected in a place of honor within the community. That monument conveys an important lesson in history that should not be cast aside for this or any other future generation. Ask yourself why is this particular statue and monument referred to as the "Sentinel." Therein lies your story and the truth! //

We can't let this happen. Obviously the winner gets to write the history but it isn't always true. The north also had slaves, the White House was built with slave labor.

This statue has been here for as long as I can remember. We played on and around it as children. Removing a part if mine and others childhoods is unacceptable. Progress does not mean changing the past. It's learning from it and moving forward. Erasing the past or even reminders of it is not condusive of progressing as a society. Actually these reminders show us where we come from and how far we have progressed.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
