The Confederates only controlled Tennessee for a couple of years, less than 5% of Tennessee history. And it was a dark period, with inflation, conscription, sequestrations, defeat and destruction...over the most immoral cause ever. It puzzles me why there were ever any "Ol' Johnny Reb" statues erected to begin with. The whole idea of secession to preserve slavery was wrongheaded and destined to fail. The folks who stood this statue up a century ago were trying to whitewash history, to propagate their Lost Cause mythology, and hide the embarrassment of defeat and immorality. Some people see the sentinel as a symbol of racial oppression , a monument to prove that although the Confederates had lost the war, they were still in charge down at the courthouse.

I'm from Georgia, but I strongly support the Confederate monuments in any state. It's history, can't be forgotten. Erasing or removing history won't change the fact that it happened. It's time to move forward and heal our nation.

Leave our Confederate heritage, monuments alone. They haven't hurt anyone, just like all the MLK monuments haven't hurt anyone. We're not out here trying to remove y'all's heritage,so stop trying to remove our heritage..
