Highly disturbing. This will affect our childrens basic human right to an education. This will literally push our children away from schools and also their families. Waking up even earlier to leave the family to spend more time hovering around bus stops to catch buses... to then be tired at school. In our case 7hrs 15mins (children leave catch the bus at 7.30am) is spent on buses and school time which is almost a full adult 8hr working day. What would it would be with the proposed changes? Our children need outside factors to be minimised so that their energy is spent on education and time spent with their family to ensure a positive upbringing so that they may be good people that are positive contributors to our community and New Zealand's economy.

proposed changes where our children will need to catch two buses will create safety issues. I have always had respect for the school bus drivers as they have the most important job of getting our children to school safely. These changes appear to be cost cutting measures with little thought to the impact on many families.

Totally against Bay of Plenty Regional Council cancelling school buses. The Council needs to think more about the safety of children and how stressful it would be for some children to catch 2 to 3 buses to get home. My friends child wouldn't get home until 5.45pm leaving straight from school. That's terrible!!!!

I am not supporting this proposed change. I feel that children having to change busses at bayfair is not keeping them safe,it's easy for high school kids to wag, contact with undesirable persons is unavoidable, the bus doesn't even take them to school (just by it) the change will make them late, the busses will be as overcrowded as they always are with the added public trying to use it also. This is NOT a good idea.

I have a special needs son that uses a Mt College bus. I would not want him in a position where he needs to change buses especially at Bayfair where so many other kids will be trying to do the same.

I want my son to catch a school bus, not two buses at multiple shopping centres.

Totally agree with this petition. We also went online to register our concern and disagreement on the official site.

Keep our Children Safe! Keep the School Bus Runs! For example kids going to Mt College will have to cross a very busy Main Rd! Without a Pedestrian Crossing! Dangerous? I think so! Kids as young as 5 who catch a School Bus now having to catch a Hooper Bus.. that's just asking for trouble.. so many idiots out there.. These kids are the next generation.. they deserve to be kept safe by all means and if that means providing a safe run to school each day then so be it!!

I cannot believe that anyone would think it appropriate to send a child alone on a bayhopper under the age of about 14. School buses are essential to the community of Tauranga. If they are cancelled you will only be placing more stress on the cities roads that are struggling as it is.

It's ridiculous to think young primary school children can catch the normal hopper bus, they will be scared & unsure, only causing them to stress & freak out.

The bay hopper is not a suitable alternative to school buses. Not only do crazy people ride those buses (therefore not safe for children), there are also not so crazy people that use them that probably don't want to utilise a bus service over run with school kids. Not rocket science

Pls keep the school bus service as is! It will cause many issues should our kids need to catch 2 buses to get to school on top of walking far to catch the bus in the first place and then to walk far to school. Not acceptable

Disappointing that this is even a possibility. All kids, regardless of age, need to be able to have the opportunity to get a school bus DIRECT to school and safely! If they are required to go on a Bay Hopper they are subject to anyone and anything - safety becomes at risk. And having to interchamge also puts safety at risk and increases delays in kids getting home at a suitable time. For example - getting on at Mt College, getting off at Bayfair, and getting on another bus to Papamoa? how rediculous!!!! Whoever thought of this idea clearly does not have school aged children who need the bus. Paying for the bus is enough of a blow, let alone taking the rights away to send your child on a safe and reliable school bus. The amount of issues and delays with Bay Hoppers are so common, our kids will be left stranded at the bus stop!!!!

How on earth is the public transport system supposed to cope with such a large influx of people? This is a ridiculous idea. We are happy to pay more to retain the school bus system.
