Both of my parents went to Southern in the 80s. Before I attended, they told me stories of how much they loved eating at the CK. The CK is a venue that connects alumni to current students, parents to children. It would be shame if it was taken away.

The Campus Kitchen is a valuable meeting place for the student body. The fact that students gather there despite the outdated decor and uncomfortable chairs speaks volumes to its value. As an alumnus of SAU who supports the school's mission and atmosphere, this decision disappoints me. It is small steps like this one that take an institution away from the type of community it fosters.

The CK isn't losing money! The Cafe is! If students choose to come to the CK instead of the Cafe than there is something wrong with the Cafe. NOT the CK! It is not fair to close it down and put students out of work.

I graduated from SAU over 6 years ago... My husband and I still go to the CK and eat!! It reminds us were we met and still able to come to a place that holds SO many memories for SAU students and alumni. It would be horrible to close such an important cultural part of this campus for so many people over the years.

It would be ashame to loose the CK, for one its a place where some people only go to eat on campus, for two like people said the jobs it provides students, and it attracts people from off campus.

Campus kitchen is regular place for me and my friends to go when I come to Southern to visit. Many students depend on this establishment not only as a place with great food, but also as a comfortable, safe, hang out spot and I believe it would be a mistake to get rid of it.

CK was a wonderful place to work. It was my first job at SAU and I have lots of memories there. You will loose a lot of fans and business SAU if you close CK.

I have heard many different versions of the situation surrounding the possible closing of the campus kitchen. While the culinary take over is a new one to me, it doesn’t change the fact that individuals with the power to make changes are considering the close or partial closing of the CK as an option for the school. I must say that the closing of the Campus Kitchen would be a terrible move for Southern to make! The school prides itself on its vibrant campus life. I question whether the people responsible for considering this closure realize just how much the CK contributes to the lives of the students that attend there.
I worked at CK for 4 1/2 years and to me and many others it is so much more than just a food option on campus. To me, the Campus Kitchen is central in my Southern memories. Whether it was friendly conversations in the back with coworkers, trying to convince Shirley to try some new hair brained recipe, enjoying shakes and fries after a softball game, studying for finals in a booth, or simply enjoying the freedom to CHOOSE the food I ate; the CK was and should continue to be a central social hub were students can enjoy good food and good friends.
This leads me to another question. What would closing or cutting down the hours of the CK actually accomplish for Southern? I know that it is just here say, but I have heard that Southern is considering this as an effort to financially save the cafeteria. If that is the case then shouldn’t Southern be focusing on trying to make the cafeteria more marketable and affordable to students? I’m not saying that those responsible are not trying to better the cafeteria, as to that issue I am uninformed. I just fail to see how forcing students to the cafeteria by closing one of the beloved, well used and financially stable eateries is a logical move.

The underlying problem here is the cafeteria. Trying to boost revenue/attendance to the caf is not going to work by destroying historic alternate dining options. Maybe we should start finding ways to better the cafeteria instead of forcing it upon students. #samschickenburgerfordays

The CK is a retail location not an educational venue. Wise up, din't reduce the economic footprint. The kids need jobs, customers enjoy the food. It's a no-brainer! Perhaps there is a win-win. Maybe it can be used after hours for culinary arts and perhaps their recipes integrated to a degree.
