I own a unit in a classic 1929 building on Capitol Hill that our community preserves and maintains. As Capitol Hill continues to modernize, it’s important to work to maintain the classic buildings to keep some diversity and tradition.

I hope we can stop the tide of developers who capitalize on the displacement, destruction, and crowding of established communities from reaching this landmark. You know they aren't gonna build sh!t for parking either.

This is my home, a sacred space that my partner, neighbors and myself care deeply about. We planned on never leaving as long as we are in Seattle. We chose the Roy Vue because of the architecture, moving from San Francisco nearly 5 years ago, the Roy Vue felt familiar and cozy during a time of major change in our lives. Not only is displacing us devastating for all of us who live there but beyond that, the plans to destroy it for insanely overpriced, tiny dwellings that target a very specific renter is grossly wrong. We have to preserve these spaces and keep our residents who care about our community, support the local businesses and balance the ever-growing tech accommodations!

Charging this kind of money for these teeny tiny spaces is absurd. Leave the building as it is. Stop destroying everything.

We don’t need micro units. We need to preserve the landmarks that show the city’s history. Start building outside the city!

The renovations to the Roy Vue will create more housing, but not more *affordable* housing. At more than $1000 a “microunit”, these apartments will escalate the housing value of the neighborhood while forever losing one of its architectural and cultural landmarks. Seattle needs less development of this kind, not more.
