I fully support the landmarking of Royvue Apartments. As buildings of character and historical significance are increasingly gutted or torn down in the area, it is even more important to keep these unique and storied community spaces in tact. Seattle and Capitol Hill in particular is rapidly losing its character and the destruction of this beautiful building and garden would be a great loss.

I lived in a micro studio and it was an absolute nightmare. Like being in a college dorm all over again. I did it because I needed something cheap and planned on working 60+ hours a week. I ended up having to break my lease to get out of the nightmare. These apartment buildings are cruel and greedy. They provide no comfort or sense of community. They are not home just an empty room with a mini fridge. No character. They should not exist. Ever.

I am a current and new resident of Roy Vue and could not have been happier to move into such an elegant and historic building. It breaks my heart that someone would take such a unique and magnificent building and turn them into overpriced unaffordable micro units. I see no reason why this building shouldn't be preserved (as more than just an outer facade with gutted inside) wether I live here or not. As a recent transplant to Seattle I was in a smaller short team lease unit for several months that I considered a transitionary dwelling. Finding the Roy Vue was supposed to be finding an apartment where we could stay long term and participate in the community. The short term housing this will replace will look a lot like I did before moving into the Roy Vue, temporary, unengaged with the community and transient until they find a more suitable home. We can't demolish buildings like this, these are the places that residents can put down long term roots without feeling like an outcast in their own city. Please sign the petition, support landmark status for this historic building and stop developers from capitalizing on the past for their own riches.

I have family that have lived in this complex for over 6 years. We have had so many memorable occasions celebrated within the complex. It would be a great sadness to lose all that this building has to offer just for the advancement of greedy developers.

Please don't tear this historical building down. There's already enough gentrification in Seattle. If we can spare one space, it'll be worth it. PLEASE rethink the development of this space, and LEAVE IT BE! Us Seattleites love it the way it is!

Develop bigger units in other underdeveloped areas. People need space, not cages, and neighborhoods with character thrive. Help create character in parts of Seattle where none exists. Quit ruining lives in these historic properties.
