I grew up in the Watertown school system, was a cheerleader for the RED RAIDERS and an alumni o the WHS class of 1969. There is no reason to change a 100 year tradition as most Native Americans have made no to do about nothing! It has gotten blown way out of proportion.

We have had this as our logo for more years than I know. To take it away from us life long Watertown residents as well as any new comers is just plain nasty! Because, someone decided that was politically incorrect. GIVE ME A BREAK!! Keep our logo as is!!!

As an alumni of the WHS class of 73, I see no benefit in moving away from the long-term mascot "Red Raider" in favor of one more politically correct. Especially if this change is made with no input from every person it concerns. It concerns students, past and present, along with many supporting residents and family members. There is no rush to change considering the long term method employed by the School Committee in unofficially removing the "indian" logo and the word "Red" over the past six years. Calm deliberation and consideration is needed with input from all (near and far) with regard to this single minded change implemented by the School Committee and it Superintendent. This matter should have been announced broadly across the community and not quickly and quietly to a select few. If change is necessary, then make change so everyone can agree. Brian Palombo '73

I grew up with Victory Field at the bottom of my street Bradford Rd.I witness many wonderful Red Raiders games and wore our colors proudly.In all of my years watching games and supporting our team,the thought of savage indians never once crossed my mind.If anything I thought only of proud warriors intent on victory.I would also note that I STILL have yet to here of any complaints from any contingency of Native Americans regarding the Watertown Red Raiders.There was and is no need to change this important,historic and wonderful emblem.Please stop making a fuss over absolutely nothing.Let this team play as proud Red Raiders in the interest of victory,historical value and continuity.Thank you for your consideration.

Leave well enough alone, anything in the world can be construed to be "offensive". The formulation of this logo was not intended to be offensive. We need to look at the original "intent" and it was certainly not intended to be offensive so leave it alone. Anyone can pick apart anything and find issue with it, if we give in to them, they will not stop here. This is going to cost a lot of money for the town to change it, and it's not fair to pass that burden onto residents that do not take issue with it.Let's move on to more important matters and leave this be.
