Save Cal Poly Pomona's Pastures and Agricultural Land

Aside for the antiquity preserved over the decades by Cal Poly Pomona, as farmlands are replaced with homes, stores and other buildings, we will see less and less of food-production, and fewer and fewer people EDUCATED in what it takes to do these things. It is self-destructive to promote the decimation of this portion of the campus, and as professionals in the field of Arabian breeding and training, as well as being authors, my husband and I are firmly opposed to this taking of common land used for education. There can be nothing more important than the pasturelands in this farm. We are also fighting the taking of the UCLA baseball field on the VA grounds at this present time, and so plan to stay on top of both of these usurpations.

It is phenomenally short-sighted to develop this pasture land. The Kellog Arabian Horse Center is an extremely unique and special place, not only for Los Angeles County, but for Arabian enthusiasts around the world. Open spaces in urban or semi-urban environments are growing increasingly scarce and Cal Poly's pastures will one day be far, far more valuable as open land than any building that could be placed on them.

As an Arabian horse breeder for over 40 years, I know that Cal Poly has played a very important role in promoting the Arabian breed that started with the Kellogg family. I hope that this heritage will continue and future students will be able to be educated in Cal Poly's outstanding program.
