Protect the Onondaga Lake Bald Eagles

The completion of the Loop-the-Lake trail around Onondaga Lake is a fantastic undertaking that will be a wonderful benefit to the people of CNY and our visitors. However, if placing the trail along the shoreline of Murphy's Island is detrimental to the Eagle population, than please look for an alternative. It has been suggested that the trail can be constructed closer to the mall side of Murphy's Island. If this is a reasonable solution, please give it some consideration. Thank you!

Do the right thing for the animals who live & use this space.

No reason to extend the Creekwalk Trail and spend more of tax payer's money not to mention disturbing the environment even more. Why do all the planting on the west shore to destroy it on the east shore. Which reminds me they need to remove the concrete laying in the water on the shore for if nothing else but safety.

Bald eagle wintering habitat is one of MANY environmental, economic, human health, and cultural factors that should be assessed before approving the Onondaga loop trail extension.

Glad to see that the Bald Eagles are making a comeback. Let's keep them secure. Move the trail.

The lake trail clearly favors bikers over walkers and wildlife.

Extending the creek walk would be a tragedy for the protection of these glorious birds. Please drop this idea!!

Further research and evidence must be presented to prove the entire process of developing this land will in no way disturb wildlife species that depend on this habitat for survival.

Please respect the eagles' space and shift the trail.

Consideration to the species is important. There is development in Baldwinsville that is encroaching as well. This is a theme happing in too many places

Please save our bald eagles by only funding if the trail route does not extend along the shoreline or interior of the island

The well-being of the Bald Eagles that roost on Murphy's Island in the winter should be more important than placing a trail along the shore or where it might disturb them. There is plenty of lakeside trail already. How many municipalities can boast of a having a Bald Eagle population within the city limits? Onondaga County planners have the opportunity to do the right thing and avoid disturbing the eagles that need acccess to open water during the winter. They have no other alternative when the rest of the lake is frozen.

You really would not want a walk in that location the wind comes off the lake and is very cold. May I add the stench from the sewage treatment plant . Not a good ideal !

We here in the Syracuse area are fortunate that the eagle population has made a good comeback. By roosting in the trees along the shoreline of Murphy’s Island, they have good access to open water during the winter months , as the water is kept warmer there due to the proximity of the water treatment plant. Without this undisturbed access, there is danger of starvation during the winter, since their primary diet is fish. If the trail is made as proposed—along the shoreline— this would cause great disruption to the eagles. Please keep the path near the Mall end of the peninsula! It is not necessary to have the trail along the shoreline! And many of the trail miles are already very close to the water. There are also serious legal considerations involved! I urge you to protect the eagle habitat and keep the trail away from the shoreline! Nancy J Putnam

This idea is bad for all involved. Bald eagles and humans. Let Onondaga folks enjoy our nations emblem.

This Loop the Lake trail does not have to include this shoreline loop on Murphy's Island. Disturbing these eagles can lead to some serious legal ramifications.
