My family chose to live in the 5 points neighborhood for the trees. The trees create a beautiful canopy to walk under with the chirping of birds and a haven for wildlife. Living things (including humans) thrive with ample amounts of trees. Savesoil.org #savesoil

An abundance of trees makes Raleigh/NC unique and a treasure to live and visit. The trees provide shade, oxygen, homes for wildlife, and soil enrichment. Trees are a treasure and we need an abundance of them for human survival. #savesoil

I cannot believe there is a petition about this and not one of you knuckleheads had the simple thought, "Why don't we call Mr. McCullough and ask about the tree." No, your first thought is to assume the worst of him. You're setting a horrible example of being a good neighbor. If I were any one of you that jumped on this petition and has been all fired up about it, boy, what I feel like a real dumbass about now after reading Mr. McCullough's post. Here's a thought...the next time you feel the need to rush to a petition, why don't you try reaching out in a neighborly fashion instead of rallying behind someone's back and ambushing them with a petition.
Into the Wiseguy that says enough builders and developers, where in the blue blazes do you think your house came from? Put your pitchforks away people and maybe do a little investigation into the kind of person Mr. McCullough is before you jump to action like this. Good grief

Please. Let's preserve these iconic trees. They are a vibrant, living part of our community. They were here before most of us (or our grandparents) were here. They should be left to stand!

I'm Hank McCullough, owner of Urban Building Solutions and owner of the lot at 1526 Greenwood St.
My only question is why didn't one single person have the courage or feel strongly enough about that beautiful oak to ask me about its future. Instead, form and sign a petition against cutting it down before you even know what it's fate is. Very disappointing to say the least of the lack of intestinal fortitude and face to face courage of this small community, of which I'm part of as a neighbor and General Contractor.
It just so happens folks that my architect and I worked diligently for several months to design a house around this tree enabling me to keep it. You people would of known this had just one of you gathered the strength to make a phone call.
So all of this wasted time, effort, energy and emotion for nothing. Seriously shaking my head and embarrassed for all of you.

I hope there will be 1000 signatures. It hurts to see beautiful old trees cut down.

It takes hundreds of years to replace mature trees; protect them for the future!

Keeping the tree would also add to the value of the house. Please save it.

Raleigh's sweet European village feel nestled under century old trees has already vanished. Please keep park designers away from the gorgeous gracious trees at Dix Park.

How can we claim to be the City of Oaks if we cut down all the mature trees?

Trees are part of the charm of this neighborhood, part of the reason people spend money to live here. Healthy trees are an asset to the neighborhood and to home sales. Their shade significantly reduces AC cooling costs. Don't believe it - stand in the yard of a house with no trees on even and 85º day; then go stand in the yard of a house shaded by large established trees. PLEASE do NOT cut down this tree. There are so many reasons, environmental, health-related, esthetic, even ethical/moral. Please, just because you have the right to do something and it is convenient or cheaper to do it, does not make it the RIGHT thing to do. Please...think before you act! Don't destroy this magnificent tree.

In addition, we need trees to breathe. These petitions should be circulating throughout the triangle region as trees are being clear cut and felled at an alarming rate. Let this 1526 Greenwood tree survive to stand as a symbol and inspiration to protect all the other trees still standing. We're all in this together (and that includes the trees).
