Too many of our old buildings in Samoa have been demolished to be replaced with new modern (ugly) structures. We have a proud history and to pull down our historic and irreplaceable buildings is to disregard our heritage. Being modern isn’t about new buildings but incorporating the old with the new. Tourists want to come and see history and character, not modern blandness; look at great tourist destinations around the world, eg Paris, Italy where even old ruins are kept and restored. A number of countries in the 1980s destroyed lots of old built in the name of progress (eg NZ) only to regret their loss when they might have been restored or incorporated into new building, at least as a facade.

For Our Country, For Samoa. This is a significant building to Samoa, demolishing this building takes away the history of what samoan traditional house looked like in 1961 going on. God Bless Samoa.

This is a extremely, BIG significant building. This is probably the only big landmark that we have left that symbolizes our successful Samoan Independence and it should not be taken away and replaced for a Hoel. Samoa is the first pacific Island to gain our independence and we should be proud of that . When people look at this building, the first thing they remember is the struggle our aiga, our Samoan family did to gain our independence.

This should be considered a national landmark and made into a museum for people to learn about the history of the past not torn down or replaced.

as a proud Samoan, I am so against this. Our culture and heritage lies within the historical building. They can plan to build a hotel anywhere but on our historical landmarks.
