My bachelor’s and master’s are from Newman and I’ve been considering adding a PhD to the list recently. This cut has really made me change my mind. My four years in Troubadours was my best time as an undergrad. Liberal Arts includes music.

How sad that the University would even consider removing the music program from their school.

Not everyone is interested in sports. Not everyone is physically able to participate in sports. Everyone deserves to explore creative outlets for their energy, mind, and spirit. Without the arts, this world would be a very dull place.

Newman U administration should be ashamed of themselves. Music is critical to so many people’s lives, and it’s clear that it has led souls to Christ. Never stop making music. Never stop inspiring.

Music brings joy to many peoples lives. I strongly feel that Newman is at the wrong and would lose more than they gained if they go through with cutting the Music Department from the university

Can’t wait until this reaches the local news. If Newman thinks is going to help save money, they’ll find all it really will do is attract negative press which decreases enrollment for the coming year. Whatever body making this choice is full of idiots who don’t understand school management or education in general.

I think this was a great move on the schools part to move the money to athletics, a department that actually matters. No one goes to Newman for music anyways. Might as well increase tuition while they’re at it am I right?

The arts are more than important, they bind humanity together. Cutting funding to the music program is a crime against the educational community.

Many of my very close friends are in the music department at Newman. They all love it and bring amazing gifts to the community.

I’m sure the staff could think of many other programs to take away besides a program with great impact and achievements...

The music program also impacts high schools, like Bishop Carroll, that go there to watch and to perform themselves

A campus that thinks it is in the best interest to cut a music program does not understand what music does for the soul. It aids prayer and transforms it. It speaks to a part of the human person that normal words cannot do. It has healing properties and is transcendent.
It is also a program that SO many look for when determining where to go. It would not have even been an option for me to consider, and I could say the same for many others. It is also capable of being a major marketing tool for the campus. Cutting the program would be the last thing I would do. Rather, you should figure out how to grow it and market it to help bring others to the campus.

Please reconsider. The world needs music, musicians, and an educational institution to sustain the quality and share with society.
When God hears you sing, you’re praying twice.
Please keep Music in all schools!
