Music and the arts stir imagination and creativity in all to achieve innovation and progress in any field. Take it away and you will take away the soul of progress.

Music is one of God’s greatest gifts. How can we teach about God and praise Him without music? Rather than closing the department, strive to be the forerunner in educating church musicians! Those skills are being lost in the present day!

Music speaks for us when we can’t. It improves skills in other areas of study as well.

Music is such an important part of a person’s development. It needs to be experienced; either as the musician or as the audience.

Please keep the music department! I took lessons, was in the chorale, and even volunteered in the music library.

Music is an essential part of worship, education, and daily life. As a lifelong musician, and 34 year career music educator I can attest to the power that music has for students and for your university: All higher educational majors should have music as at least an elective course, and Deanne Zogleman is a top notch director. She has continued upon the foundation that John Leavitt left to her 15 years ago and has successfully sustained the NU program for over 15 years! I cannot understand why any University would want to end such a successful program!

Music helped pay my way through college. I play 9 different instruments. I can't get through a good day without music. Don't get me started on my bad days. Music has been proven to help with other areas of learning.

Why do the arts always go on the chopping block? It has been proven in many studies that those who participate in music and the arts are more intelligent, articulate, have higher IQ's, and diversified in all educational circles.

Do you think the founder of this university would be okay with cutting the music program? Doubtful.

In my time at Newman, I saw so many of my friends grow through the music program. Being able to support them at their events was a true honor. The students at Newman deserve the chance to explore themselves.

I would hate to see music disappear from Newman! The troubadours are great ambassadors for the University! But I wonder how many of the people who have commented and signed the petition, give to the Newman annual fund! These are tough times for private universities, you can even designate your gifts to support music!
