We fought hard to make it what it has become. Lets fight hard again to keep it.

As an alum, this is sad news. This is such a vibrant part of the college and I really hope it does not end.

Music isn’t just sound, it’s life. It’s what keeps a lot, if not all of us going and I stand with many others saying the decision for the music program to be cancelled is not right.

What a travesty. Why is it that it's always the creative arts that can help all students with communication and social skills? Sports only help a select few, and usually not the most academically inclined. Totally unfair, and just plain wrong.

Cutting arts programs degrades the experience students get at an educational institution and gives a bad impression of that institution to the public. It’s inconceivable to me that you would cut an entire music program. How incredibly short sighted.

As a former chorale and troubadour member of Newman University, I am shocked and upset that this program, one of the few I cherished, is being cut from the school. How disappointing for all those involved and all the students, faculty, and public who enjoyed it immensely. Save this wonderful program!!

Liberal Arts School without a music department, that doesn’t seem right to me.

I was in this program for 4 years. This program helped me complete my community leadership capstone project that brought music to those who enjoy it most. This program is a shining light a Newman that deserves to be supported.

Please dont cut this vital program!! Chorale got me through a very tough time in my life. Idk what I would have done without it!

The music department at Newman University was one of the biggest motivations for me to attend. I wouldn't even have considered NU if it didn't have a music department. Cutting this department will mean taking away a safe place for students, a place they call home, where they can truly be themselves.

Music and the liberal arts in general are vital components of a complete education that developed the soul as well as the intellect

This is by far, one of the most stupid decisions made by Newman I have ever ever heard. I went to Newman for 4 years and I never missed a music show if I could go to one. I have always enjoyed the music department’s performances and had the best time with my friends attending these events. I am also proud to see my friends who are in choir perform and I will always support them. They are truly talented. Alumni do want to come back to see more performances and I have seen the performance hall filled with guests from the community day after day. So, which departments will you cut next? Will your student ambassadors and admission counselor continue to tell prospective students and incoming freshmen that Newman has a great culture of investing in students’ talents and providing a well-rounded education? As a former ambassador, right now I can’t believe I preached those words. Such a disappointment... Newman, it is time to LISTEN to what your students and faculty have to say.

Killing music will kill Newman.

The reason I kept coming back to Newman and the reason I completed undergrad is because of Chorale. Deanne wants what is best for all of us and she pushes us to be the best version of our selves. Newman will not be the same with out her Carole, and the choirs they has built.

As I am a band kid and sadly we don’t have a band I know how music affected me personally and I think everyone should be able to experience what I have

Not only would you be cutting something great out of Newman, you would be pulling a family apart. Please don’t, save the music department

I lived and breathed this music department my 4 years I attended. As a 4 year member of the Troubadors it was my reason for attending Newman U. By cutting a vital Liberal Art department you are insulting the memory of Cardinal Henry Newman.

I am signing this because music is one of the reason why I (we) am here today. Through music we can express ourselves, we can connect with our emotions, we can relate to the lyrics, we can feel better, less stressed, ready to start each day with energy, and so much more. THIS is why the music department is needed at Newman University, or in every single school/university if you ask me. Students rely on these course to find themselves, to unwind. They find a positive outlet, they find a place they can call home. At Newman we stress all of the time that we are a family, that there is a sense of community. My family, my sense of community, comes especially from the Music department. Most of all of my friends and my best friend, are involved in the music department. The ones that are not, support us every single day, by coming to musical, fall concerts, Christmas concerts, Spring Show, and a few even going to the Troubadours performance at Botanica. Some of them might not be in Chorale, but they take piano classes with Carole which helps them feel better about themselves. What I also don't understand and it still shocks me is how by closing the Music Department, you are making two of the most important people at Newman, two of the most kind, most human, most understanding people, leave this campus, and with them, the magic of everything. Deanne Zogleman always says, at the beginnig of each year (gosh, even semester) that we are a family. That if nobody can find a family outside class, that's what chorale and troubadours are there for. She also stresses that we can always count on her, for anything, not just music related stuff. She assumes a role of a mother. A caring mother. And trust me, being international, I miss my mom every single day. When I am homesick, Deanne made sure to make me feel like her daughter and that's how I feel. Her actually daughter, is my best friend, and the reason why we know each other is because we met in Chorale. Over the summer, I have spen
