The music department is truly a part of Newman’s history. As an alumni I would really hate to see this happen.

It is distressing to learn about the elimination of the music program at Newman University. What a short-sighted move, one that impoverishes the university and the lives of the students in it, and the life of the community around it. Please reconsider this short-sighted move.

As a former Wichita resident, Newman's reputation in the arts was second to none. As one who attended college on a fine arts scholarship and now makes a career out of music, I cannot imagine how that would be possible without the training and opportunities afforded me by attending an institution of higher learning with a quality fine arts program. Fine arts students, on average, score higher and are more attentive in class. It is JUST AS, IF NOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN SPORTS!! The brain development and advanced fine motor skills obtained through music education and performance are scientifically proven to be a great benefit to those who participate. Combine that with the community engagement Newman garners through their fine arts programs, and you've got something that should NOT be removed!! Save the Newman University Music Department for the students, for the school as a whole, and for the Wichita community!

This is unacceptable and would be a tremendous loss for the students as well as the greater Wichita and Kansas community. These students deserve to study music.

Why is this even being considered? NU without a music department?? Can’t even imagine it. It’s such an important part of campus.

I cannot imagine my college experience at Newman without the music program. It was the sole reason I attended there rather than another university and all of my favorite memories involve my time in chorale and the troubadours. The choir kids as well as Deanne and Carole were my college family and provided support, joy in difficult times, laughter, and love. It was an escape and helped me grow as a person and gain confidence in myself. I feel that if the music program was taken away, it would have a serious impact on the culture on campus, recruitment of incoming students, and the community as a whole.

The music department was my one get away from all of the stress in the science world. It kept me safe and helped me focus. It would be sad to see it go.

This makes me so sad. I am not proud to be from a school that would make this decision.

Music is the thread that holds life together with joy. To callously dispose of a music program is ignorant.

Don’t cut the music program. You might as well close the whole school if you do that. No one will want to go there anymore.

This is the most unintelligent decision any university could ever make. I feel for the staff and students who could potentially be impacted by a change such as this.

Three of my grandchildren were in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers this past summer. I was very impressed with the program there. Don’t cut music from your school. Big mistake.
