Save the Napa High Indian Symbol

There is nothing offensive about the Napa Indian. I am proud to be a Napa Indian. As well as a Redwood Warrior. Come on, don't change it after all these years.

I have worked for tribes most of my career. The vast majority of tribes and tribal members I have spoken to over the years do not see the use of words like "Indians" or "Braves" or other variations as derogatory. The opposite is true. Please do not change our mascot. Dave Somers Class of '70

There is nothing derogatory in this. There is no need to get rid of it.

Keep the Indians mascot... do not succumb to pressure from outside our school.

Class of 1970, Napa High

Class of 1970 the mascot was revered by all for many many years. As it was for myself and my mother class of 1936. The Indian was a symbol for strength a proud worrier.

I thought this was tried a few years ago and the large opposition was shown at this time I am 1/4 Cherokee and I very much oppose the Removal of this Emblem and Status I Graduated in 1970 part of I believe the largest class ever at Napa High. LEAVE OUR EMBLEM ALONE!!!!!

I do not find using a Napa Indian derogatory in any sort of way. I am wondering if research shows if the picture of the mascot looks like/resembles what the indigenous peoples of our valley looked like, how they wore their hair and if they wore headbands with a feather? Being a member of the class of 1970, we always respected the beautiful floor in what was our "old building" now the District offices. No one was ever to walk on it out of respect! If people are finding the use of the word "Indian" disrespectful, then they must realize that word is the word people used until recent "politically correct" times. It is such a wonderful memorial to the peoples who did live in our valley. Please do not change the Napa High mascot. What are people even suggesting as alternatives?

Class of 1970 Not sure of the agenda of whoever wants to change our beloved mascot, this is a treasured and historical representation of spirit and admiration for, literally, hundreds of thousands of Napa High students going back 120 years!!

P C is looking more like B S. Why mess with it ? Do something constructive with money.

I have read that it could cost over 3 million dollars to change it where will that money come from??? There are so many far better uses!!!

I know this puts me in a minority, but I don't care if the mascot is changed to something else. What made Napa High great in my day (Class of 1970) was not the Indian: it was the a broad curriculum and excellent teachers. No matter what the mascot is, what's really important is the quality of the education.
