We are from new Zealand.... Let them stay change the bylaws and allow people to live off grid safely and in a tidy fashion its fair and its good for the environment

Let the Smith's stay, I don't know why this should be a problem. The property owners gave them permission, the community of Ripon should too.

Stop the craziness. Living off the grid is as natural as it gets. As long as there is no sewage violation leave them alone.

So, could the owners of the 20 acres get away with having guests stay on their property in an RV? I do understand ordinances and all that are in place for a reason, but this tiny home on a small piece of a 20-acre property--and it looks wonderful, by the way, much better than some of the homes in my neighborhood--is not like cramming a house into an alleyway between two other homes or anything like. Ordinances need to be reasonable, and officials should have the common sense to know when an exception can be made that is reasonable.

why don't they change the zoning laws as there is 20 acres more or less. as I am given to understand, there is plenty of room for the tiny house. its not bothering anyone, seems petty and ridiculous to single out this family. Also it can't be seen from the road, its quaint and not a eyesore!!!

People should be allowed to live in these homes which are built with good quality of materials and life in mind. People live full time in buses and other travel trailers which are often of lesser quality, so these well built places should also be allowed!

If this family's tiny home is not causing any health or safety issues, not a public eyesore, and the land where they are staying in not public or government. Why would it matter to the town? This is just political bully bureaucracy at work. Leave these people in peace, Ripon!
