Save the Music Hall!!

Please preserve this as a dance and public meeting space.

Keep this building intact and operating! Saratoga is metropolitan enough and rich enough that it does NOT need to replace the SMH for office space. Another building can be built or renovated in Saratoga somewhere to have offices and increase revenue for the city if actually necessary.

I look forward to dancing in this beautiful building every year at the Dance Flurry! It is one of the things that makes leaving City Center worth the cold!

The Music Hall was an integral part of my formation as a young person growing up in Saratoga County. This space provided me with a safe, healthy, and community-oriented alternative to other social activities I could have been brought into. The dancing I did in the Music Hall was just as important as the learning I did in my classrooms throughout my school years. To take this away from our community would be a step away from progress, away from community health, and away from the beauty and the importance of artistic expression. Saratoga is so much more than a Racing Town, we have a rich history of art and expression. We deserve more than office space.

I just wanted to add, (because when I signed it, I couldn't think of anything to say) I live in Schenectady, a place that barely has anything artistic. Its gray. No life. No excitement. The people here have no real vision. If anyone here is even asked to do anything like swing dance, you'd be laughed at or even in some cases shot at. It is for this reason I love Saratoga. All of the arts, creative minds. Its a beautiful city. I found it amazing that even the city hall being so connected with the arts, had a stage right above its city offices. I always believed that to be the crowning symbol for what your city stood for. It was at this place I learned I had confidence within myself. I started taking classes with the Spa City Swingers almost 2 years ago. A lot of people don't know this but, I did it because I found myself having tons of trouble doing simple things like 'asking someone to dance', 'dancing in general', and 'Being formal yet physical with an woman'. That last one was a big one, I would have severe anxiety attacks when even thinking about doing anything physical with a woman. When I say simple things, I mean simple, holding hand, touching someone on the hip during a dance, literally the basics. It was that bad. When I first started classes, I had the understanding that partners would be chosen at random at times and even then I would be nervous. However, My first Diamond Dance, I learn very quickly, that I would have to be the one to initiate, to approach, to ask. That entire night, I was fighting myself, pushing against what my brain was telling me I couldn't do, years of doubt and fear all pushing back as I try so wearily to walk up to someone, extend my hand and say 'can I have this next dance?' It was overwhelming. Yet, I saw everyone else, in this safe and comfortable environment having fun and experiencing true life. Beautiful, historic location that has helped in the preservation and advancement of music and dance in a community, Saratoga Springs, which supports the art of dance, music and community. Wooden floors are difficult to find and important for dancers and other activities. The Dance Flurry brings many, many visitors to Saratoga Springs and they look forward to the wooden floor.

So many fond memories dancing there while at Skidmore College. It is a classic beautiful venue, and the big band dances are fabulous.

How about you tear down the white house, for some dam office space?

I have enjoyed dancing and seeing performances at the Music Hall every year since 2002, when I first started attending the annual Dance Flurry. This historic hall is a beautiful treasure for the city and only enhances my annual visit. I can sympathize with the city's need for municipal uses, but it seems to detract from the downtown to take this prime space for the arts and convert it for offices and court uses.

I love dancing in this hall at the Flurry. Please don't turn it into an office.

You don't realize the gem that this structure is. Invest in it, don't destroy it. It is a fantastic dance hall.

This is one of my favorite halls to dance in at the Flurry Festival! Beautiful, springy wood floors, intimate acoustics. Please don't tear it down.

This is a wonderful facility and dancing in the Music Hall is one of the highlights of my annual visit to Saratoga Springs. Like hundreds of Canadians, I come for the annual Flurry Festival. The Music Hall is the one good dance venue available and the festival wouldn't be the same without it.

this is one of the finest dance floors in the eastern United States! please keep it as it is!!!
