This cut will be a huge loss for the students of MHHS. These kids deserve a chance to express themselves, enjoy an extracurricular where they can feel safe and comfortable and a chance to preform and engage with their fellow students as well as the community. Please consider saving this department- a lot of these kids have nowhere else to go or no one else they can depend on. Please, save the arts.

Theater arts, music and fine arts are as necessary to an education as sports. They provide another dimension to a child's being. Music itself has been shown to be important to many aspects of a Child's ability to learn subjects such as math and science. Also music increases a child's ability to listen to directions and others with whom he /she is performing.

I was a spotlight operator for most of my time with the Masquers, and I still had loads of fun and was able to be more confident with myself. The theater program not only introduced me to amazing and fun people, but also helped my self-esteem and allowed me to blow off steam in a fun and educational way. I enjoyed the sciences, but like many students, couldn't keep up with the demands, and the arts, specifically theater, helped me cope and explore different areas that I could excel in.

Please stop trying to cut out the amazing theatre program at Mt. Hope. It means too much to the students and their childhood, self expression, and self discovery. For one thing, in high schools the creativity students can ignite is rather restricted. The English curriculum is mainly focused on constructed responses rather than stories written from one’s imagination. Theatre programs aren’t like that. Also, people enjoy the entertainment of watching movies and visiting broadway. Those performers, filmmakers, story writers, etc. all start off from discovering their passion in high school. Please stop trying to take that away. My family loved the idea of me attending Mt Hope because of the variety of programs and opportunities they provide. Now you’re trying to take it away. Please stop limiting children, we are all interested in different things/ activities.

I went to high school here and cutting the arts is one of the most despicable thing capitalism causes. To act as though the arts are less viable careers is so outlandishly ridiculous that anyone who stands by it should have to live their life with no TV, no movies, no music, no art of any kind. Everything in your home you care about is art. Your home itself is art. There could be no more viable career.
Teens need an outlet to express themselves. They need to be allowed to have interests that you dont feel benefit the school =_= For some, school is the only place they even have a chance to be themselves. Its honestly cruel to start discouraging any emotional outlets that arent sports, but from my memory it does suit the way that school always behaved. Unfeeling towards the kids, teachers, and anyone who happened not to BE currency. Good luck to what you still dain to call a school. Some of us dont look back so fondly as to call it that. I remember more of a social prison where those who are different are less welcomed, so none of this really surprises me.
By the way, for the record, i found a viable job in the arts and now live in a two story house with a yard. Im on track to retire at the age of 35.

Mt. Hope theatre isn’t a drama club it’s a powerful enriching course that not only teaches us about the true artform but allows us to explore our expression of telling others stories. Mt. Hope Theatre changed my life forever, it gave me the courage to believe in my passion for this art form and love to New York and pursue a career in the arts. My career had taken me all over the world, and I know 100% if it wasn’t for Mt. Hope theatre I wouldn’t have ever discovered the possibility of honing my craft and having the courage to move to New York to pursue it. Unfortunately the youth of Bristol-Warren have no where to take their passion for Theatre the art form to the next level. If cutting something has to be done, look into the the many other art classes that are offered and consider that, because I can tell you right now, ceramics or drawing can be an after school club, theatre has many more dynamics that help an individual evolve and tap into their truest Authenticity not only as a performer but a member of society. Please don’t cut this program it would be devastating for so many and the many young ones who have always looked forward to enrolling in this program when they made it to the high school level.

It might have been almost 50 years ago, that I was in the BHS drama club and the chorus but I will never forget how very important it was to me. Children need to learn many things while in school & that most certainly includes their creative & expressive talents. These teachers work as hard , if not more , to bring out the talents that contribute to all of our society !
