The Mt.Hope Masqueraders is one of the only places I felt like home during my time at Mt. Hope. The only classes I remember fondly from high school were theatre, music and art. I then continued on in college to major in theater, and then intern at Trinity Rep and I perform in RI theaters. The theater department at Mt. Hope shaped who I am as a person today and helped me survive a dark time in my life. Please do not rob our future generation of this joy, and safe space to express themself.

Theater is a way for people to get outside there comfort zones especially the ones that are too shy. I would know I was in theater and would panic but when I did my first improv show all of my fear gone, they teach how to let go of fear how to think of them not as people but just as empty seats and your performing for yourself. I believe that kids should be exposed to theatre if they want too find a way to deal with the hard times at school. If you take away theatre you are taking away a whole entire chapter from the United States history. Leave the theatre program running please and thank you! Have a great day!

This isn’t cool. Some of these kids need the theater to cope with things you couldn’t even imagine. Who knows what kids home lives are like. You’re taking away their creative expression and ability to be themselves freely

I may not have gone to Mt. Hope, but theater in any school is like a family, and no student should be denied the ability to express themselves on stage. The school board isn’t taking into account the opportunities for students that they are destroying, theater is still something looked for on college resumes, and the family it creates continuously. Theater builds character just as sports do, and it is equally important.
