You folks are making a huge mistake. The Theatre dept is really the only thing that enabled my daughter Genevieve to make it through high school. It was her haven. Her friends were there. She still sings and performs till this day. She’s finishing up college soon with a theatre/education major and is hoping to work in the field of performance education which she was engaged in at the RI Children’s museum until the Pandemic hit. If you do this you’ll take away an entire venue of learning for kids like my daughter. Hope you reconsider.

The theatre department and performing in high school helped me grow as a person, and has had an incredible effect on my careers. As a lawyer I've always felt comfortable talking in front of large groups of people, because I had honed that ability in theatre. I can memorize important details due to learning lines. So much of what makes me successful today was learned and honed in theatre class. Please don't deprive future students of the learning and life building that they can get in theatre.

Theater is not just a hobby but a way of life for many students. Especially students that wish to seek a career in the arts after graduation. Removing the program would be detrimental in their success and in their personal life as they have found something they are truly passionate about.

This program along with the other art programs at Mt. Hope are what made me excited to go to school everyday. For many people, these programs were eye openers about what they wanted to do with their lives and what they went to college for. The teachers from every single one of these classes are phenomenal, and if these programs are cut that will be so discouraging to students and they may not end up following their dreams after all. Mt. Hope is full of beautifully talented people and they all deserve a chance to not only show it, but to build their skills

Theatre at Mt. Hope changed my life. Doing theatre and teaching it is the reason I get out of bed every morning. I was so inspired by my teachers at Mt. Hope that I went on to be an arts educator and advocate myself so that I could change kids lives the way the theatre program at Mt. Hope changed mine. Please don’t do this to these kids. The arts are a valuable part of education, especially theatre. It teaches kids public speaking skills, confidence building, spacial awareness, empathy, and is often a haven for LGBTQ+ students. For me, the promise of rehearsal at the end of the school day was incentive to do well academically and was enough to even improve my attendance. Removing the theatre program at Mt. Hope would be putting the students at a serious disadvantage. I’m 100% ready to fight this action as a concerned alumni and theatre artist and educator so please join me. I would not be who or where I am today without theatre.
