Theatre and music are a vital part of education at Mt Hope HS and at ALL schools. Cutting the program is unacceptable, and not only have a negative effect on student learning, but also on social-emotional growth in the students who are currently involved in this program.

The arts, and specifically theatre, are a vital part of every school experience. While some kids may go on to pursue a career in this field (whether it be performance or technical) the other benefits it provides are countless. It provides a space for kids to belong, to work hard, to collaborate, to create, to lead, and to learn. The elation that comes after a sports win is no less than that which comes after a performance. Don't take this away from your children. Don't take away the one outlet that some kids might have. Do the right thing and save this program.

To overlook what students learn by being part of theater and the arts is foolish. They learn to collaborate, that the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts, they gain self confidence, they learn how to support one another and they experience the joy of the arts and sharing that with the community. The arts are just as vital as any team sport, just as much of learning as any textbook or classroom lecture. Do not dismiss its value. Save this program for this generation and the next.

i was apart of the theater department my freshman and sophomore year and it was a huge outlet for me. its more than just a "drama club". taking away the theater department would be taking away students passion for acting, play making, and a whole lot of other possible careers for a lot of them. taking away the theater department from an actor would be like taking away football from the star linebacker.

My daughter was involved in the technical aspects of theater at Mt. Hope and has minored in it in college. It was an integral part of her high school experience and has taught her to be more self-confident and to work as part of a team. The arts provide the wonderful extracurricular opportunities for our students!

The theatre program at Mt Hope is something that needs to remain. My child was very shy in high school and finally got the courage to join. It was so helpful to her for her junior and senior year. She performed in the halloween programs and then their aping and fall productions. This is something that needs to stay. Cut something else Like maybe administrators. The kids need this program. Please reconsider

I didn't attend Mt. Hope but theatre is just as important as the sports that school districts pour money into. Getting rid of the theatre dept is an unwise budget cut, by doing it you are alienating a large demographic in the student body.

Absolutely horrendous decision to cut this program. Save the arts!!! While my academic instructors did much to prepare me for the world, it was really the performing arts department that brought soul to my time at Mt. Hope. Cutting this program would be just as detrimental as cutting the science department as a whole. So much love and community has been built around the theater program. If this goes away, those responsible will have to answer for (without exaggeration) ruining generations of students’ academic experiences.

Theatre and dramatic creativity utilizes and develops personality and skills that are instrumental to the success of those that dedicate there loves to the entertainment of others. Those same skills can be used to assist and lead others in the professional careers.
Please consider the impact of removing this program.
