During my high school years theater was an important part of my growth. It taught me the value of responsibility, hard work, practice, and team work. It also served as a creative outlet for all the high school stress. It’s value should not be underestimated.

As a parent of a former student I find this outrageous! This program serves as an outlet for many students just as sports do for others. Not to mention the teacher is one of the best mentors and most amazing person.
If this goes what’s next? Band? Chorus?

When I went to Mt. Hope, the theater room and all the exploration it had to offer was my favorite part of going to school. It was a safe spot to escape judgement and harassment, a place where I felt fully comfortable to learn and be entirely myself. To deprive the next generation of students of that experience is so shameful and unnerving. Absolutely get it together and leave the theater program alone.

Theater is as important as other group activities that students engage with in high school. It teaches working toward a common goal, collaboration, and the value of community. Theater also provides a means of expression for students who may not have that opportunity in other activities.
Rhode Island has a strong history in the creative arts that has been repeatedly celebrated by our state's leaders and touted as something that makes our state special. Theater programs at a local level are important for maintaining that tradition.

There must be a solution to meeting budget cuts without cutting academics and the arts! It's time we start paying for our kids to participate in sports, extra curriculars and transportation. We need the academics!

Theatre and Music are just as important in education as the STEM classes. These classes promote so many important life skills such as creative thinking, communication, and collaboration, not to mention it is a way for student self expression. Shame on our district to get rid of such an important program to the students!

I got my start in theatre in high school - I've now been working as a music director and educator in theatre for almost 20 years. Music and theatre gave me the motivation to get through high school and it would be an incredible disservice to the students at Mt Hope HS to eliminate this program.
