Theater is an important part of all these students futures. Like music and art they need theater!

Anyone in support of removing theatre from high schools is never allowed to watch a movie or tv show or anything with actors in it ever again.

I'm sorry you've had that experience. I would say the same about sports! It's not vital, but important to some people and we have to be respectful of that. Arts and their related industries also play a huge role in our country's economy (more than travel and agriculture according to recent studies). Unfortunately, your statement does not provide justification for de-funding children's education. And last I checked, all children are required to take an arts-related course from elementary school through higher ed.

As a retired special education teachers assistant this was one of the very few classes that my students were accepted and were able to find themselves a spot where they could feel proud of themselves and excel. It was a welcoming learning experience for all. Students found their voice there, they found comradeship, pride, acceptance, and new skills. Please do not cut the theatre department away from Mt. Hope you will be doing the students, school and the public a great disservice.

As someone who gets to see the results of an excellent, well-rounded, artistic education at Mt. Hope, I would plead the school district to resist cutting the budget of the theatre program. These children, of whom your are depriving a valuable resource, outlet, and form of expression, take what they have learned in these departments (like theatre) and apply it in order to succeed! I have worked with and had numerous students from these districts. To think that the committee wouldn't have the foresight to see the damage they were doing to the industry and communities around the state is frustrating and disappointing. Engineering, innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership....these are but a fraction of the lessons you get from theatre. Additionally, I would encourage the committee to do research into the academic success of communities where arts funding is cut. You would be dooming these students to a flaccid intellectual experience and hampering their future success as productive members of our society.

There are other ways to balance the budget. The well being of many children will suffer if the programs are cut. Clearly, none of the school committee members understand how to analyze finances.

Theater saves so many lives. Not an exaggeration... it’s the only outlet for some children to express themselves and explore their emotions.

Our school is low fund and can’t afford to keep this and woodworking which actually is vital unlike theatre. You need people who know how to build stuff for the future
