I Graduated from Mt. Hope High School class of 2003. The time I spent in theatre class created some of my most treasured memories from high school. This program has helped develop individuals with talent for theatrical arts and given them a foundation to start their career. At least one person from the my graduating class and former masquerader, currently lives in CA and work as an actor. This program should continue as Mt. Hope High School should want their students to have a wide range of options for elective subjects to fit all personality types and interests.

The Masqueraders and the Mt Hope Theatre program is an indispensable bedrock of the Bristol/Warren community. Theatre provides a unique outlet to develop critical thinking, empathy, and build self confidence in ways not as easily achievable in other academic areas. It also is a safe haven for so many students and a strong, emotionally supportive, and accepting community. This program should be cherished rather than put on the chopping block.

Theatre is such an important aspect to a teens experience in high school and removing that takes away from an incredible creative outlet. Don’t let this happen!

I can’t help but wonder why them? Why the theater department? What made them stand out as a cut?

Please reconsider having a theater program. My daughter is so musical and artistic, I'd hate to think there won't be an outlet for her in high school

Drama is about self expression. That’s is so critical in high school. You don’t need a big budget to provide a drama club. Heck, sometimes just a theater and a teacher is enough. Don’t take away people’s creativity.

Theatre is important to everyone of all ages and backgrounds. It lets people know that they are not alone and that they belong here. Theatre should never be taken away.

To cut this program would be a mistake. Just like the sports programs, theater (the arts in general) provides an outlet; it teaches students discipline, commitment, how to win/lose, support others, confidence, self esteem, comradery, thinking on your feet, make lasting friendships - the list goes on and on. Are these not the important things we want for our growing and learning youth? For if those are the very reasons debated to keep sports programs going, then I never quite understood why theater always seems to be the first to get cut, because it provides the very same benefits. Please, do yourselves and your students a favor and keep the program. It would be devastating for it to go.

Who would think that a well-rounded education would not include the Performing Arts. Is that how Bristol, RI wants to be seen by the rest of the state and country? From producing Shakespeare and Musicals every year to what Bristol? Really? What a Class act BWRSD. Bravo.

Both my girls were in the theater program from middle school through high school. It was a great experience for both if them. It helped build their confidence and self esteem. The theater company is one big family...a wonderful family. Not all students like sports so there needs to be something for them to join and become part of an organization. Theater is just that and more. Please do not remove this from the curriculum.

Taking away things like Theater is detrimental to children. Not every child plays sports. This is wrong.
