Unfortunately this appears typical of SBCS. Gorman is an excellent teacher and makes music fun, which it should be. He was the main reason for my son going to Riley. Typical politics at the expense of the kids. It will do no good to make this move and admit in a couple years it was wrong! Admit it might not be the best move right now, before years of hard work is unraveled and can't be re-couperated.

Mr. Gorman is an awesome teacher and has worked wonders with my son. His band program was the main reason we chose to go to Riley

When I came to Riley High School in 2007 I was a transfer student. I came from Oregon-Davis (one of the smallest schools around). When I transferred as a sophomore I was terrified of Riley because it was bigger than anything I had ever experienced. After my first day at Riley my fears nearly went away after Band that morning. Suddenly I wasn't a stranger, but I was part of a family and Mr.Balog and Mr.Gorman were the heads of that family. They have such passion for what they do and I admire them greatly!

The JWRHS Marching band was an amazing and life-changing experience for me, and I know that it would not have been the same without Mr. Balog and Mr. Gorman.

Honestly what pride does the band have if they are willing to leave if Howard takes over? They should stay to show the strength that the band has. If your going to let the presence of one person change yourself then you are just showing you are not worthy of the band.

She barely qualifies as an orchestra teacher.

Mrs. Howard is an unfit leader foe this band. As an alumni under Mr. Balog and Mr. Gorman, I can say that the band is what it is because of their partnership and leadership. If the band loses them it loses its soul. Mrs. Howard does not have the knowledge or passion for the marching band that the students need for this to be a successful decision.

I was 2nd generation RHS Marching Wildcat (My Father and both of his siblings marched ) and all of my children were in the Marching Band(Sarah , Lindsay , Brendan ) . When you think of traditions there are None more important to the "Pride of the South Side " . Though I am late hearing of this , I pray that the understanding is that benefits to the students and the dedication to excellence continues as a bureaucratic change will damage an Institution that is Most dear to ALL who are Riley Wildcats . Please continue the Great history as we celebrate South Bend's 150 years by supporting Mr. Balog & Mr. Gorman for their dedication , that has carried forward the excellence that is The RILEY HS Marching Band ! Mr. Balog and Mr. Gorman are what makes the Riley Marching Band amazing. They can never be replaced.

I completely agree, she is a very poor fit for an energetic thing such as the Riley Band.
