Too many near accidents waiting to go thru the lock and while inside the lock. It's not only dangerous for manatees but also for boaters.

The qualified representive of the petitioners said on video the lock is not broken from the hurricane, it is broken from the city of Cape Coral neglect. One of many lies from this person. Doesn't care about the Manatees

The Chaquita lock is a hazard for boaters. The venturi effect caused by water flowing through is swift and powerful enough to capsize a boat potentially causing loss of human life. I've witnessed several manatees getting stuck in lock and mutilated by boats. T

This lock has long since been a useful tool for water management and has become a danger and restriction to wildlife as well as to the ever increasing human population of the area. From a fiscal standpoint it will be ultimately much less costly to local tax payers after removal than the continued costs of maintenance and an employee on site many hours per day. “Be gone with you I say”

Remove the lock. It’s nothing but a navigational hazard, huge bottleneck and serves no purpose any longer.

It is time to remove this hazard to boaters and wildlife with no proven benefits to inland canals.
