The locks is also a menace to dolphins. I have witnessed this a few times.

The lock has been wide open for over 7 months and the waters in the spreader are cleaner and clearer that before. We have multiple manatees, dolphin, fish, ducks, birds and even an eagle now. No red tide or blue algae blooms here either. The water levels are no different than when the lock was operative. The wide open lock is a funnel that creates swift water flows during ebbing and flowing tides. This is a danger to anyone or anything passing through the lock. Sign the petition to remove the lock.

The lock has outlived its initial purpose and needs to be removed. It's an eyesore and a danger to boaters and wild-life, especially Manatees.
