This Chiquita lock is ridiculous and should be removed - it serves no purpose. Senseless Manatee deaths and many other problems that have occurred because of this senseless lock. Matlacha/Pine Island should clean up their leaking and smelling septic systems and oil leaking and deteriorating boats - pre-Ian issues. Kind of Funny, but not really. Many The activists could actually be the biggest contributor to water quality.

Every day i see manatees in our canal in front of the lock, most of them with calves.
3 years ago we found a dead manatee calve in the lock area.

I have a video of 3 manatees in the block with doors closed, one 4 engine go fast boat and me and two other boats with the doors closed.
Two females and calves. Manatees were freezing and boats just drove out over them when the lock gates opened.
If video would help, I can hunt it up and email it if requested. It was sad.

Removing the lock is good for the manatees and good for the boating community and Cape Coral Marina residents. Please remove the lock.

As a Cape Harbour resident & boater the lock now always open has made water quality better. Alligators, Manatees, Dolphins & many species of fish are now in the canals. It's much safer boating with an open lock and removing the lock all the way allows a natural flow of tidal water & safer boating. And I am an environmentalist & agree the lock must go. Idling boats backed up for hours at any lock is worse for the environment.
