Rowing is a marvellous sport for boys and every effort should be made to advance activity in this sport and should be encouraged

Such a short sighted decision to abandon this sport and exclude it from the curriculum, especially when there is no financial burden for the school. The benefits of participation and rewards brought to both students and school, should be recognised and encouraged.

£8,000 raised by 60 supporters is pretty impressive - imagine if this was 600. After being taught at school and now spending time on the river bank (with the odd outing in the small seat), the team spirit of rowing highs and lows can't be over estimated. Hopefully there are coaches and infrastructure to continue at LOSBC - and If they do they can be assured of huge support from the wider rowing community.

The LOS rowing boys have done us, the school and themselves proud. The headmaster always encouraged our sons to grow and step into the world as well rounded Catholic men. Rowing helps them to do that immensely. Prudence, fortitude, temperance and justice are only some of the many virtues that are being strengthened and put to the test. These boys are developing into great Catholic Men of strength in a very difficult world and rowing is assisting them to increase their formation through dedication, determination, humility, hard work and focus! What more can we ask for! The Rowing Club has to continue for the benefit of the boys, future boys and the school. The Governors will never regret it.

This would be a terrible loss to tideway rowing. There are precious few state school rowing programs and to rob these boys of the opportunity to learn rowing would be a hugely regressive step. I hope to see LOS crews on the river for many decades to come.

Let them row especially if the support group have raised their own funding. There are enough ills in the world without reducing childrens' sport.

It would be a shame not to encourage the boys to row and be part of a team and all that that teaches them and the great opportunities it creates. The school has come so far with this, don't stop now. Keep it going!

It is important to maintain access to less mainstream sports at state schools. It ensures pupils from state schools can benefit from qualities rowing offers. Closure of this programme would instantly shrink the local rowing community and will negatively impact interest in the sport in the long term impacting its growth and continuity.

The Rowing Club has to continue. Children should be exposed to as many sports as possible during school years.

The school should be very proud of the Rowing Club and what the boys have achieved. They must be hard working and team players just like the rugby club and yet the school seems embarrassed of the boat club. Why? Too elitist? Yet the rugby team often plays public schools like Dulwich College . The Rowing Club should continue.

This is a wonderful facility at the school - would be a real shame to lose it.

State schools must provide access to sports for children. Rowing is an excellent activity that ensures proper development opportunities for all

If parents have raised sufficient funds to keep the club running for a year and are willing to support it, why hinder their efforts?

Rowing is such a great sport for children to be involved with. It gives a real sense of team work, allows children to gain confidence whilst learning a fantastic skill that they can enjoy later on in life. It is great that London Oratory School originally offered it, please keep doing so as we need more state schools to follow your lead and ensure it's available to all and not just those who can afford a private education.

Rowing as a sport is great at teaching the benefits of teamwork and is a rewarding activity at all levels. It is very inclusive and allows people to participate who might not necessarily be able to compete at the standard school sports.

Having come to rowing at university, I would have loved to have been involved earlier when I was at my (state) secondary school. Huge benefits in so many areas.

I help out at a local rowing club and run a youth organisation. I believe that the sport and enjoyment of rowing should be accessible for all and not just for the privileged few.

Worst decision they would ever make.

If the money is there to run the programme for another year, why stand in their way? Unless it's just to save face.

Britain competes very successfully in international rowing - please don't confine the opportunities to private school pupils. I'm a parent at RGS High Wycombe (state school) which still supports rowing. I'd love to see Oratory continue to thrive on the domestic competition circuit.
